SciBite releases new version of easy-to-use Vocabulary Editing Toolkit – VET 1.2

SciBite releases new version of the easy-to-use vocabulary editing toolkit, VET 1.2 which adds new features, improves performance, and offers even greater ease-of-use.

SciBite’s Vocabulary Editing Toolkit (VET) is a desktop application designed to help curators build and manage lists of semantically related terms. VET is an intuitive editor that “understands” the key elements of vocabularies – synonyms, unique identifiers and taxonomy – and makes it easy for scientists to adapt existing vocabularies or curate entirely new ones.

Without VET, crafting a high-quality vocabulary from scratch or customising an existing one with in-house domain knowledge is a complicated and tedious process. Scientists either juggle multiple text files or use spreadsheets, which, although simple to use, aren’t built for the management of complex scientific data.

“High-quality vocabularies are critical to achieving the clean, accurately described data necessary for advanced computational methods, such as AI, to be effective,” says James Malone, Chief Technical Officer at SciBite. “With this latest version of VET, we are further building on our integrated approach to simple, collaborative and robust ontology management.”

The new version of VET introduces:

  • The ability to view SciBite proprietary vocabularies and see preferred terms and their associated synonyms,
  • Upload, read and edit .aug (“augment”) files to enrich proprietary vocabularies,
  • Improved tagging of synonyms with local modifiers, enabling users to easily find synonyms and add an easy to understand explanation for each tag,
  • Real-time sanity checks on your vocabulary’s integrity for quality assurance
